    "profileSummary": "Dr. Nivin Abdelmeguid is an environmental, energy, and climate change specialist working at the intersection of energy economics, public policy, and sustainable development. She is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and holds a PhD in Euro-Mediterranean Studies, specializing in Economics, with a focus on energy and environmental economics. She also works as an independent environmental, energy, and climate change consultant, contributing to national and international projects in renewable energy, climate policy, sustainable finance, and assessing the environmental and social performance of energy projects. Dr. Abdelmeguid served as a Lead Author and Technical Editor for Egypt’s First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) under the UNFCCC. Her research investigates how policy choices, investment conditions, and geopolitical risks shape decarbonization pathways, particularly in emerging economies. She is the Editor and a Contributing Author of two volumes with Nova Science Publishers: The Future of the Energy Sector: Innovations for Economic Growth and Sustainability, currently in press and scheduled for publication in November 2026, and the forthcoming The New Energy Order: Geopolitics, AI, Climate Risk, and the Global Race to Net Zero. Her latest research, “Geopolitical Risk and Renewable Energy Investment in Egypt: A Techno-Economic Assessment of the US-Israel-Iran Conflict,” scheduled for publication in October 2026 in Economies (MDPI), examines how geopolitical escalation could affect investment in utility-scale solar PV in Egypt through supply chain costs and financing conditions, and shows that the financing channel may influence solar power costs more strongly than physical supply disruptions, highlighting the importance of financial de-risking and supply chain resilience in energy policy planning.",

        "title": "The Future of the Energy Sector: Innovations for Economic Growth and Sustainability",
        "publicationType": "Book",
        "abstract": "The global energy sector is entering a period of unprecedented transformation shaped by climate change imperatives, technological disruption, geopolitical realignments, and the accelerating pursuit of sustainable development. Across regions and industries, governments, institutions, and private actors are re-evaluating how energy is produced, governed, distributed, and consumed in response to growing environmental pressures, economic uncertainties, and demands for resilient and inclusive growth. Against this evolving backdrop, The Future of the Energy Sector: Innovations for Economic Growth and Sustainability brings together a diverse collection of scholarly contributions that critically examine the innovations, policy frameworks, governance structures, and technological transitions redefining the future of global energy systems.\nThe volume is organized around three interconnected themes that collectively provide a multidimensional understanding of contemporary energy transitions. The opening section, Reimagining Sustainability and Energy Futures, establishes the broader conceptual and geopolitical foundations of the energy transition debate. The chapter Beyond Sustainability: Reframing the Global Agenda through Regenerative Development challenges conventional sustainability paradigms by advancing regenerative development as a more transformative framework centered on ecological restoration, systemic resilience, and long-term socio-environmental balance. Complementing this perspective, Shaping the Future of Clean Energy: Geopolitical Realignments, Innovation Ecosystems, and Next-Generation Energy Systems examines how technological innovation, critical mineral competition, geopolitical restructuring, and emerging innovation ecosystems are reshaping global clean energy governance and redefining future energy systems.\nThe second section, Regional Cooperation, Policy Innovation, and Energy Governance, shifts the focus toward regional and national policy responses to energy transition challenges. The chapter on Regional Cooperation for Energy Innovation and Policy Alignment in South Asia highlights the importance of collaborative governance, cross-border energy integration, and institutional coordination in promoting energy security and sustainable regional development. This discussion is complemented by India’s Contemporary Renewable Energy Policy: A Catalyst for Sustainable Economic Growth, which analyzes how India’s renewable energy strategies and policy instruments are contributing to industrial development, employment generation, investment mobilization, and energy security. Similarly, Green Energy, Industrial Competitiveness and Job Creation in Morocco: Opportunities and Challenges explores the socioeconomic implications of renewable energy expansion in emerging economies, emphasizing the interconnected relationship between green industrial transformation, competitiveness, and labor market dynamics. The section further includes Assessing the Design of Multicriteria Renewable Energy Auctions, which provides a systematic analysis of renewable energy auction frameworks and their role in supporting efficient, transparent, and policy-responsive clean energy deployment.\nThe third section, Technological Innovation and Sustainable Energy Transitions, focuses on applied innovation and emerging sustainability-oriented solutions. Designing Energy Efficient Urban Futures Through Design Thinking Pedagogy introduces the role of urban planning, educational innovation, and design-thinking methodologies in shaping sustainable and energy-efficient urban environments. The chapter highlights the importance of interdisciplinary and human-centered approaches in preparing future generations to address complex urban energy challenges. Complementing this discussion, Artificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Sustainable Energy Systems examines the growing role of AI technologies in optimizing energy systems, enhancing operational efficiency, supporting smart grids, and facilitating data-driven sustainability solutions. The chapter Vermicomposting of Biogas Digestate: Advancing Circular Bioeconomy and Sustainable Energy Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa presents an integrated model linking renewable energy production, waste valorization, and circular bioeconomy strategies. Through the discussion of digestate management and vermicomposting technologies, the chapter demonstrates how sustainable waste management practices can simultaneously address energy access, environmental sustainability, agricultural productivity, and rural development challenges. \nThe volume concludes with Scaling Innovation in the Global Energy Sector: A Roadmap to Net-Zero Economy, a forward-looking chapter that synthesizes many of the themes explored throughout the collection. The chapter examines the institutional, technological, financial, and governance transformations necessary to accelerate the transition toward net-zero economies, emphasis. ",

        "title": "Geopolitical risk and renewable energy investment in Egypt: A techno-economic assessment of the US-Israel-Iran conflict",
        "publicationType": "Journal Article",
        "abstract": "Geopolitical instability presents an inherent paradox for renewable energy economics, reinforcing the strategic imperative for renewable energy while acting as a cost multiplier for its deployment. This study examines how geopolitical escalation associated with the US-Israel-Iran conflict would affect renewable energy investment in Egypt, specifically utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV), through physical supply side and financial risk transmission channels. Drawing on the theory of investment under uncertainty, a quantitative scenario-based techno-economic framework is developed using recent secondary data. Physical pressures arising from commodity, manufacturing, and logistics disruptions are measured through changes in capital expenditure (CAPEX), while changes in the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) measure financial risk. A reference solar PV system is evaluated alongside limited escalation, prolonged disruption, and severe escalation stress scenarios, followed by two-way sensitivity and robustness analyses. The reference case yields a levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of 4.62 US cents/kWh under the baseline assumptions. Findings show that LCOE increases to 5.17 cents/kWh under limited escalation, 6.04 cents/kWh under prolonged disruption, and 7.06 cents/kWh under severe combined stress, with an increase of 52.9% relative to the reference case. Results further suggest that financing conditions exert a larger independent effect than the physical supply shock; a 20% increase in CAPEX raises LCOE by 18.4%, whereas increasing WACC by 4% raises it by 28.7%. This ranking remains stable across alternative reference specifications, while combined scenarios reveal an amplification mechanism when higher financing costs are applied to an enlarged capital requirement. Consistent with the theoretical proposition, the findings indicate that abundant renewable resources do not necessarily imply resilient investment conditions under geopolitical stress. Geopolitically exposed emerging economies like Egypt should therefore prioritize financial de-risking and supply chain resilience when formulating energy policy.",

It discusses the links between governance, environmental inequality, water scarcity, food insecurity, public health, and political instability, advocating for inclusive climate adaptation strategies that prioritize environmental justice and equitable policymaking.",

        "publicationType": "Article",
        "abstract": "This article examines the Water–Energy–Climate Nexus, emphasizing the interdependence of water security, energy transition, and climate resilience. Using comparative case studies from Egypt, India, and Indonesia, it demonstrates how water availability influences energy generation while energy production affects water demand and climate outcomes. The article highlights challenges such as water scarcity, renewable energy expansion, desalination, hydropower, institutional coordination, and climate governance. It advocates integrated policymaking and cross-sector collaboration to achieve sustainable, climate-resilient development in emerging economies.",
